I grew up on the family farm, less than ten miles from TMI. By 1979, I had moved to York and was working at the York Little Theatre, also about ten miles from TMI. We were all within the ten mile circle and were told to be ready to evacuate. But where would we go? There were animals on the farm. Where would they go?
I got a call from friends in New York. They said they had been told that the wind was blowing north and they should be ready to leave, leave Manhattan! The realization was that there was no safe place to be. Nowhere to go. We had only to cross our fingers, say a prayer and hope for the best.
