I remember two public relations stories.
The first was a statement that the radiation from the emergency was measured and was “indistinguishable from background.” That meant that it was equal to background, and the current measured radiation level was twice background.
The second was the announcement that people were told to evacuate to Hershey PA. (Preparations were indeed made to receive them in Hershey.) In my opinion the announcement was made to assure the world that Hershey chocolate was not radioactive.
