Man what didn’t we do through that time, one hell of a ball for sure..us woman didn’t worry about nothing, the men did the worrying. We just galavanted for days, went to a smoking shower, went to a bar while we left our food for Uncle Tom to watch. Huh!
I think Uncle Frank, Uncle Jim and Uncle Vince went home to Bressler to go to work we tried to do laundry one day, between Aunt Francie and me, it did get done. Went to church, over the mountain on Sunday. Thanks to Uncle Joe, some church out in no man’s land.
Had Katie with us the whole time. She keep hearing the phone. Nope, no phones up there in those years.
One day we all ladies wanted to take showers, so we went down to the Pines Hotel and rented a room, so we were going to takes turns showering. We get our room and key but Mary Lynn and Katie had to go ahead, so there they are pounding on the wrong door and there mountain men opened up and said, Holy hell they’re sending old ladies and babies to us!” They were in their smoking stuff, and waiting for women to bring more. I hollered, “What the hell yuns doing? You’re at the wrong door!”
Well we did get showers after we fixed up that mess. From there most of us were ready for a beer, so we stopped at the Pines. Some went on up the hill. We all gets a beer and Aunt Patty gets this BIG Coke. Wrong thing for her to drink on account of some meds she was taken. OK we figured she could drive so we all orders a couple beers. Well we overstayed. First we all bought a tee shirt that said, THE PINES, bright yellow with green letters, laughing like hell, cause we were gassed. And when Aunt Patty gets up to drive us, she’s worse then we were. So I takes the keys and up the mountain top we went, real slow. We get home and the men didn’t take the food out the oven so it was burned and dried out
One afternoon it was warm and remained, so we all stayed, about 3 dogs, all the moms and kids… well the youngest one was Nuggie, maybe 2-3, in diapers, and she pooped herself and went up stairs and started dropping them out of her diaper, and I says, “Oh, oh I smell sh–, and I think Aunt Suz says if anyone could know about sh– it would be be me, cause I cleaned dogs for a job.”
Then early one morning the men were going to work. It was a bit dark yet, so they came down steps from top floor in stocking feet. No one looked, but Lucky left a load at the bottom and one of the three workers hit it, don’t remember who. See at home Lucky lived on first floor and went down to bottom floor to do business, soooo… I think we were on our way home after that.
7-8 days up there, laughed every day, should have those days again, what a hearty trip. I think kids were too young to remember, except Mary Lynn, cause she went with us woman everywhere. The younger stayed home with the cabin men, Uncle Joe and Uncle Tom.
