Back then I had a landscaping business. My guys and I were working near Goldsboro in the valley green area. We didn’t know anything was happening, a police car came through the neighborhood broadcasting on his PA system, saying: “Evacuate pregnant women and children under the age of five years.” I went up to the police car, the officer barely cracked his window so I could speak to him. I said should we be working out here? What’s going on? He said there was an issue at TMI and “I wouldn’t be here if I were you.”
“I wouldn’t be here if I were you.”
We’ve gathered our tools and left. We went home to watch television to see what was happening. We had left some large equipment on site, all during the crisis I was concerned my equipment would be contaminated and I would lose it. All that week my friends and I Watch TV and heard from other folks that were leaving.
My friend’s dad was a state policeman he evacuated his family and recommended we do the same. We did not, we were young and fearless. Eventually the crisis was over and we went back to work. Our friends who left started returning and felt a little confused. Did they do right thing?
